Yukon Transmission

From the edge of the Arctic, where distances are vast and communities are small, a distinctive creative culture has grown.

Yukon Transmission brings together the work of artists living and working in Yukon; a place shaped by immense landscapes, long winters, deep silence, frosted isolation, DIY improvisation, and an unusually intimate relationship with both the past and the unexplored.

Here, the old and the experimental coexist easily. Handmade traditions sit alongside digital practices. Stories, humour, strange ideas, found materials, technology, performance, sound, and image move freely between disciplines. In a place where resources can be scarce and distances immense, creativity often begins with a simple question: what happens if we try it?

 

This exhibition offers a glimpse into that particular artistic ecosystem: curious, resourceful, eccentric, and deeply connected to place.

 

These are artists working far from Canada's major cultural centres, but not outside contemporary culture. They are making work from a place that asks for invention, and gives it room to breathe.
